The No. 1 Skill for All Entrepreneurs

Hey Reader,

When I was starting out, my wife said:
“You seem to be like you’re on a rollercoaster.”

When a video I uploaded performed well — I was excited.
I was on top of the world.

Another day, I got a bad comment,
and the whole day was ruined by insecurity.

This continued day in, day out.

On extreme days, it was the top of the world in the morning, and the valley of death in the afternoon.

This brings me to the most important skill to master:

Emotional Resilience.

That you don’t take everything personal.
That not all things that happen throughout the day are emotional.

One step is to separate the business from yourself.

I know this is a hard one, because you feel like you are your business.
While your business requires 100% of you to grow
you don’t rely on your business to grow.
You are more than your business.

The next task is to:

Look for input, not for outcomes.
Focus on what you can control.

Do what you can and ignore the rest.

Analytics don’t matter much in the beginning.
It’s more about getting actually good.

In the beginning, I didn’t know what would work.
I still had to stick with it for long enough.

Know that there will be a lot of failures on the road.
That is not you.
That’s just something you tried.

You can do it new, better, again.

Emotional Resilience gives you the strength to start in adversity.
When it looks bad.

Don’t let your hope be controlled by trolls of the internet
or analytics from platforms.

Just keep going.
It’s too important for you to not keep going.

You can also find help in conversation.
You’ll be able to find encouragement there.

You are not alone.
Be ready to stand small.

🪵 Keep chopping Wood!

New is better than better Don’t try to beat your competition by being better than they are. Don’t try to win at their game. Be a new opportunity. Challenge the standard. Create something new. It’s not just the same old – just a bit better. It’s not good enough to make a little less. Find the new combination. Don’t just try to be better. Being better means you can easily be compared. You will not create mass momentum – you will be fighting a pricing war. Who can be the cheaper solution? It’s…

  • Clear beats Clever

Clear beats Clever I have designed 30 websites, launched 60 products. The biggest problem I had was to make myself clear. I played around with titles and the feel of words. Introducing my own language. The feedback I often got was: “I don’t understand what you do.” I just wasn’t clear. My big goal was to be clever. So that’s what I aimed for. The solution to all of it is to write clear. When people can understand you and have a feeling that you speak to them – it changes the game. You want…

Hey Reader, A lot of men want the freedom, the money, the status, the fire.Few are willing to chop the wood. Let me explain. A few days ago I wrote about looking for the easy life.We all have another wish.We all are wishing for our dream life. Yet only a few actually take the first step to ignite the spark of the dream life. Most only wish for the big warm fire. They are looking for the fastest way to get rich. They are looking for the passive way to get rich. They look for the controversy that…

We are often in a rush.I’m definitely feeling it on many days. I think my progress is to slow.My plan is always tight for time.I plan too much for too little time. Then I need to look up, let in a sense of time. In forestry, there is a saying:“Wood grows on wood.”Older trees grow more wood per year than smaller trees — if both grow slow. The bigger, older tree will have added a multiple amount of wood compared to the smaller, younger tree because its diameter is so much bigger.Yet the small…

  • The No. 1 Misconception about Success in Business

Hey Reader, I enjoy success. There is something extremely satisfying about winning. For me, success is the biggest motivation to play. A statement that I used to define was: “We’re in it to win it.” The more I chase success, the more I notice some patterns of bad success. You look like you have it all, but you’ve lost the important things along the way. We all look at business and probably think that the amount of money is the deciding factor of success in business. The biggest misconception…
