Being a dad is more than bringing a paycheck home. It’s more than paying all the bills on time. You are actually the leader, caretaker, and playmate too.
You can teach your kids many lessons. They learn how to have fun while also living out their strength. There is a requirement to all of this: You need to be present.
You can’t be absent. It’s not just physically being in the room but also showing your full attention and focus.
This is the first side of the Present Provider. When it’s family time – it’s family time. It’s no longer work time. No checking social media or some emails.
Recently, I had another epiphany. There is a second side to the Present Provider.
I bought two memberships to two different communities. In one, the founder has the expertise but has hired a community manager to keep everybody engaged. In the other, the founder is actively leading the conversations too.
I was figuring that out as I reflected on why I enjoyed one community more than the other. I thought: that’s integrity.
And in business we have the same result. The Absent Provider has worse service for the client.
It’s better to be a chief of one: Present Provider.
We can do both family and business. Both of it needs us to Provide with Presence. That is also good and well.
It’s not about balance. It’s about doing both well.
When you’re present for your family, you also can figure out how to be present for your clients too.
Clients want results and your family wants to make memories.
Both require: Attention. Focus. Time. = Provided by giving your presence.
